GMS organized a seminar for HPV awareness in collaboration with AFIP Virology
Global Marketing Services arranged a workshop titled “Values of primary screening of HPV using the Xpert assay for prevention of cervical cancer”. The session was organized with the collaboration of AFIP, virology department and held on Tuesday, 7th March 2017 at Faruki Auditorium, AFIP.
The seminar was opened with the welcoming speech from Commandant AFIP, Maj Gen Parvez Ahmed HI (M). Ahmed Ramzy, Marketing Manager Cepheid Middle East, turkey & Central Asia, was the guest speaker for the workshop. He highlighted the use of GeneXpert for the primary screening of HPV. Xpert HPV is a major addition to Cepheid's comprehensive portfolio of Xpert tests, and one that can help to ensure women at risk for cervical cancer get the care they need immediately.
Other speakers included; Col. Dr Eijaz Ghani (HOD, AFIP Virology), Maj. Dr Sadia Mushtaq, Brig. Dr Tariq Sarfraz, and Brig. Dr Shehla Baqai. The session was concluded with the hands-on demonstration of the GeneXpert.
HPV infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world. A handful of HPV genotypes, known as high-risk HPV (hrHPV), can present severe health risks. hrHPV has been linked to more than 99% of cervical cancers worldwide. Xpert HPV detects 14 types of hrHPV DNA, with specific call-outs for HPV 16 and HPV 18/45. The test can be done completely on site and provides results in less than an hour.
