Early Detection Can Save Your Life!!!

Cancer is a large group of diseases that can start in almost any organ or tissue of the body when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably, go beyond their usual boundaries to invade adjoining parts of the body, and spread to other organs.

Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women, impacting 2.1 million women each year, and also causes the greatest number of cancer-related deaths among women. In 2018, it is estimated that 627,000 women died from breast cancer – that is approximately 15% of all cancer deaths among women. While breast cancer rates are higher among women in more developed regions, rates are increasing in nearly every region globally.

To improve breast cancer outcomes and survival, early detection is critical. There are two early detection strategies for breast cancer: early diagnosis and screening. For breast cancer screening mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early before women experience symptoms – when it is most treatable. Having regular mammograms can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer.

Other than mammograms antigen detection can also help in the follow-up of therapy. Cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) is a protein that is produced by normal breast cells. In many people with cancerous breast tumors, there is an increased production of CA 15-3.

VIDAS CA 15-3 is an automated quantitative test for use on the VIDAS family instruments for the quantitative measurement of CA 15-3 levels in human serum or plasma (lithium heparin or EDTA) using the ELFA technique (Enzyme-Linked Fluorescent Assay). It gives results in just 60 minutes to aid in early detection thus improving patient survival.
