Fight Pneumonia. Save a child!!!

World Pneumonia Day seeks to raise awareness of pneumonia as a public health issue and help prevent the millions of avoidable child deaths from pneumonia that occur each year.

Pneumonia is a preventable and treatable disease that sickens 155 million children under 5 and kills 1.6 million each year. This makes pneumonia the number 1 killer of children under 5, claiming more lives in this age group than AIDS, malaria, and measles combined.

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus causing cough and difficulty in breathing. Pneumonia patients are frequently over-treated with antibiotics because it can cause some of the same symptoms as a cold or the flu and is difficult to quickly identify the pathogen responsible for their symptoms.

The BioFire FilmArray Pneumonia (PN) Panel delivers fast, accurate pathogen identification in about one hour, which targets about 33 pathogens in a single test and may allow physicians to put patients on appropriate therapy quicker thus improving lives.
