SARS-COV-2 R-GENE and SARS-COV-2 RESPI R-GENE assays can detect a new variant of SARS-CoV-2
As we all know that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 is circulating in the UK. Early genomic characterization of new strain has shown mutations across 4 genes – ORF 1ab, S gene, ORF8, and N gene. Around 17 mutations have been identified.
As a consequence, analysis confirms that both SARS-COV-2 R-GENE® and SARS-COV-2 RESPI R-GENE® assays detect this new strain, with primers and probes (targeting N and RdRp genes) matching at 100% with the new variant sequences.
